Mar 13 – Singapore Sightseeing and Mar 14 - A work day

We visited Singapore in 2019, before the pandemic, so we are familiar with parts of the city.  And we are staying at the same hotel as before, the Rendezvous.  We decided to do at least some sightseeing today, starting with a walk towards the Esplanade and the Singapore Flyer.

The Flyer was closed the last time we were here so we were in hopes that it would be open.  We were in luck.

The walk into the Flyer took us through a “Time Capsule”.  Got this one interesting photo of lights.  But there was no line so there was no need to crawl through the Time Capsule to see all the history of Singapore.

The capsules hold 26 people but there is no crowd so they put just 6 of us in the capsule.  So we would wander around at will and take photos.

There were good views of the Marina Bay Sands hotel.

Some of the marina and the wall of buildings surrounding it.

Many of the Gardens by the Bay.

The outer harbor with a gazillion ships at anchor.

And many views of the vast number of apartment buildings that seemed to go on forever.

Once out of the Flyer we headed off towards the Marina Bay Sands.  The walk took us over the Helix Bridge.

With views of the marina.

The mall is massive.  Just inside the entrance we came in was a massive chandelier (for lack of a better term).  Huge.  Like the mall.  The mall has five floors and it seems to go on forever.

The main reason we came here was to get some hot chocolate at Angelina’s.  Angelina’s originated in Paris and has some of the best hot chocolate in the world.  And we discovered that there was an Angelina’s in this mall.  Took us no time at all to find it.  Unfortunately, they were out of hot chocolate and had been so for several days.  We assume it is a shipping problem due to war in the Middle East.

So we just settled for lunch there.  Bummer.

From there we walked over to the Gardens of the Bay.  A view of the Flyer from the gardens.

The fountains looked refreshing.

We didn’t spend a lot of time but we did get over to see the “big trees”.

We also bought tickets to go up into the trees and onto the skywalk (which we didn’t do before).  Views from up there were great...both of the trees themselves...

and the city.

A view of one of the exterior of indoor cloud forests.

By the time we finished it was getting hot…so we found a taxi that would take a credit card and headed back to the hotel.  Good day.  But enough sightseeing.

This evening we decided to have dinner at a small restaurant near the hotel called Hoagies.  They didn’t have any hoagies but they did have rosti…a Swiss dish that is basically a hashbrown patty.  They also had real ice cream shakes.  Nice way to end the day.

Mar 14 – Singapore

We didn’t venture out much today except for meals.  Mary worked on photos and the journal, trying to catch up and Paul finished all the income tax stuff and got it off to the accountant.  Definitely a working day but very productive.
