Mar 8 – Puerto Princesa, Philippines

Another tropical paradise.  The island is known for an underground river, but we opted for snorkeling again.

We had another welcoming committee at the pier.

One guest handed one of the dancers their stuffed penguin.  Apparently the little penguin was a world traveler, getting his picture taken all over the world.

On the way to our boat we stopped at a snorkel gear shop where the others in the group got masks and fins.  One of the group was Steve Friedman, who has been giving lectures on musicals.  An interesting person to visit with.  He and his wife, Brenda, have been cruising with Crystal for a number of years.

Then it was on to the longboat for our boat ride.

The tour included three snorkeling spots.  The first was out in open water.  There were a lot of fish.  I suspect they were feeding the fish but didn’t really see the feeding or the food…maybe this was just a very fishy spot.  The water was pretty clear, just not as clear as our first stop yesterday.

Second stop was Lili Island.  The snorkeling here was from a rather shallow beach…wade in and then lay down.

It was never very deep.  This area was rather murky (too many swimmers and snorkelers) but some people were feeding the fish (bread…surely they could have fed something more nutritious and appropriate for fish) so there were a lot swimming around.

Next stop was Cowrie Island...

where we had a great lunch.

All of our group opted out of any more snorkeling.  And it didn’t take long to walk around the island.  It isn’t very big.

The boat docking area.

But it is outfitted with lots of picnic spots...

and a lot of people were enjoying the island.

Some colorful canoes.
